`My art is a niche of serenity in my busy life. I love the moment when I can pull out a clean canvas and start a new piece. I never work in public; it is my time, my secret space to escape from my routine life.
My “teachers” in Art are Jan Vermeer and Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin. I admire their attention to simple and modest things. Though, I don’t feel like I want to compete with them. My style is realistic, but with contemporary touch - strike of lights and the darkness of the shadows, the brightness of the floral and softness of the texture. Most of the times I use photograph for the reference, but it is never same as photograph. I’m always changing something: background, color, proportions or move pieces around.`Tania Darashkevich.
