Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Katherine has been inspired by art most of her life.
Her artistic career began as a director of film and television programs, more than 18 years ago, when she joined Sound Venture Productions as a partner. Some of her award winning work include: "The Group of Seven-Art for a Nation ""Canvas of Conflict”, "Whole Notes", "Footnotes", "Homes by Design", the Gemini award- winning series "The Toy Castle" and others.
As a visual artist, Katherine is interested in capturing the ephemeral moment of a moving image. Her unique style which has movement, depth and transparency is historically connected to her vocabulary as a filmmaker.
Katherine Jeans has watched thousands of hours of moving images and it’s these poignant flashes of beauty that inspire her to craft them into fine art.
The artist`s paintings are a personal selection of random freeze frames much like you would see in a dream or a moving picture. She is interested in emulating this out-of-focus mystery onto the canvas.
Her work oscillates between paintings bordering on photorealism and large, abstract compositions of captivating colour. Katherine`s work has always centered on painting itself, which is applied in many different ways to push the boundaries of reality.
`I have explored many genres of painting that has been a necessary evolution to sustain my faith in art as one of the “highest forms of hope”. ` Katherine Jeans.
Her work was selected by galleries at the 2008 New York Art Expo, and her unique style was coined as “Monet meets the digital age”.
Katherine’s art has been shown in feature films and commercial galleries.
