Andries
Veerman

1 page

Andries Veerman was born in Den Haag, Holland, and was eight years old when his family settled in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Andries received his formal Art Education at University College of the Fraser Valley, studying under Mirco Jacabow and Paul Kuzma. After working as a Commercial Artist/Illustrator for six years he moved to Mexico and into the world of Fine Art full time. After five years of a growing success in the Wildlife Art genre, he met one of America's leading artists Paul Mullally, who introduced him to the works of Richard Schmid, he knew then that he wanted to take a new approach. A formal education in classical training was not easily available, so Andries set out with firm resolve to teach himself. He made in depth studies of Academic Classicism and Impressionism, under the great influences of such masters as Sargent, Zorn, Sorolla, Schmid, Benson, etc. Andries has been fortunate to continue his studies with some of the Premier Painters of America, such as Howard Terpning, Laura Robb, etc. at the Scottsdale Artists' school. Andries has received international recognition for his historical Native American themes, Plein air and Tonalist Landscapes. He has been featured on ABC News and many other television programs for his striking works, including a live painting demo.
The artist is represented by many galleries across Canada and in the US. His works are sought out by collectors throughout North America; many of them large works in private collections.

Starting with a drawing of a scene, Andries allows his emotions to evolve the painting and take it to a more poetic level. Peace, Power and Solitude are the three elements inspiring the artist in the landscapes presented at the current show.
